From Marwar to Modern Mastery
The Muslim Marwari Silwata Jamat originated from Jaisalmer and the Marwar region of Rajasthan, known for their skilled craftsmanship in working with yellow sandstone. Traditionally stone masons, they built intricate havelis and structures in Jaisalmer using this golden stone. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many migrated to Karachi, where they continued their trade, constructing buildings with similar architectural styles. Their work is still visible in areas like Saddar and Kharadar, where ornate facades and stone carvings reflect their heritage and craftsmanship, leaving a lasting impact on Karachi’s historical architecture.
Our ancestors originated from Marwar, Rajasthan, renowned for their expertise in stone masonry and intricate architectural designs. Even in Karachi’s history, our community has played a vital role in building some of the city’s most iconic structures, including the High Court, Old Assembly, and other historic landmarks.
